Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism are considered the “three pillars” of ancient Chinese society and they form part of the rich and varied Vietnamese religions and belief systems.
Buddhism was introduced to Vietnam in the 2nd century and during the Ly Dynasty it became the state religion at the time in Vietnam.
Confucianism in Vietnam comes directly from Chinese culture and is a form of wisdom and code of social behaviour based on family and community order.
Taoism is derived from the Chinese word for the ‘way’ or ‘road’, and like Confucianism, originated as a philosophy rather than a religion searching for the way/the one.
