The Vietnam National Museum of History – Bat Trang pottery and the cotton tree – POSTPONED

The museum runs many events for tourists and the general public, which are more general and don’t go into the same depth that we need for FVH. So every now and the museum will run a more detailed tour for a small group of us.
This is a last-minute entry into the May calendar as the red cây gạo – Bombax ceiba – cotton trees in the museum grounds have gone from red flowers to the white ‘cotton balls’ that are now falling to the ground. So. the museum contacted us to see if wanted to arrange a 2nd tour while the trees as shedding their ‘cotton’.
As there isn’t time to prepare a tour on a totally different theme to last time (when we saw the red flowers in bloom in March) so we will follow the same content but with a different temporary exhibition.
The theme focuses on the link between the communal house/pagoda structure and the museum environs, the architecture, why the building was built where it was, and its reflections of East meets West. Inside we visit the current temporary exhibition on the Bat Trang pottery village ceramics, as well as a few relics related to the Vietnamese village and communal house. We also learn about the history of the Dong Son drum and its iconic images.
Back outside we hear the story about the cotton tree.
This tour is just for us and will last about 1.5hours (or a bit longer if people want to go into more detail) – led by Dinh who is dept. head of the Museum’s education department.
Given the short notice and being on a weekday its likely only a small number of people will be able to attend.
Minimum 5 people needed for this tour to run, max 10 people.
