Music – The Hope Choir: concert for Vietnam’s War Invalids and Martyrs
August 18 @ 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM
This is the re-scheduled Hope Choir concert, which could not take place on the original date of 27 July.
Every year on, or as close as possible to, Martyrs and Wounded Soldiers Day (also known as Vietnamese War Invalids and Martyrs’ Day -27 July), the Hope Choir holds a recital. This year its at 50 Dao Duy Tu. Everyone is welcome to come along. FVH has been an important supporter ever since Triem and Thanh founded this wonderful choir.
THE HOPE CHOIR.
If you have not heard The Hope Choir sing before you will undoubtedly be impressed. If you already know them then they need no introduction. They are a group of blind and severely visually impaired singers and folk musicians. They are amazing– not because of vision impairment but because they are superb singers. The choir was formed about 20 years ago by pianist Tôn Thất Triêm and his opera singer wife Xuân Thành. What they have achieved with minimal funds and little resource is incredible.
Triêm teaches the choir the meaning of each word, they transcribe the lyrics into braille, and sing in the language of that song.
So, lets join the choir and celebrate this Sunday 18 August. The concert starts at 3pm and usually lasts about 1 hr 30 mins.
They will perform a selection of songs and medleys and folk music. The venue is one of the best in Hanoi for acoustics.
There is no entry cost but the choir highly appreciate, and needs, donations no matter how big or how small. Every little bit is a great help to them as they rely soley on the community’s help.
