Talk/lecture – Dao/Yao ethnic group ceremonial paintings
October 13, 2019 @ 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
200,00VNDThe Yao or Dao, in north Vietnam, are one of the 54 ethnic minorities. Each ethnic group has its own lifestyles, customs, traditions, worship faiths. Ancestral and gods worship is central to the spiritual lives of the ethnic people living in Vietnam’s northern regions including the Dao or Yao.
As the custom of hanging worship paintings in ritual ceremonies remained, a large number of worship paintings are preserved.
Thanh at the Indigo Store will give us a talk about the ceremonial/worship paintings of the Yao ethnic minority. What the symbols, colours, the gods which are featured and their significance, where the paintings should be placed and the role in the Yao’s spiritual practice. Worship paintings are not made to be simply hung on the wall for decoration purposes. They are used when there is a funeral or praying session in the village, or in religious practice ceremonies.
