This walk gives an overview of the changes to Hanoi during the French colonial period in Vietnam. By the late 1880s, the French controlled Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, collectively known as Indochine Français (French Indochina). We touch on the development of the new education system and the demise of the old, town planning and architecture, as well as other eclectic info about the city’s development . Starting at the back of Chu Văn An school we make our way to Ba Đình Square to focus on the past and present lives of some important government buildings and structures. We stroll the surrounding avenues of embassies, up to Điện Biên Phủ and Hoàng Diệu street ending at Cửa Bắc (north gate) and Cửa Bắc Church in Phan Đình Phùng street.
