This is a morning small group tour to Bắc Ninh and Hưng Yên exploring two treasures of Vietnam – rice farming and one of Hưng Yên’s most famous and beautiful pagodas.
Wet rice farming has always been practiced by the Vietnamese people. Therefore, there is a keen interest in, and intent on, refining the rice-growing model. Recently, the agricultural sector in Vietnam has also sought to encourage many farmers to practice organic farming because such seeds contain a wealth of health-promoting elements.
In particular, black rice is a product that is enjoying a lot of customer support because it embodies many nutrients that are extremely healthy for the body, such as protein, unsaturated fat, calcium, selenium, fiber, iron, Omega 3,6, Vitamins A, B1, and B6…… As a result, Nguyễn Xuân Bang and Dr Hoàng Thị Thu Duyến** have been very motivated to learn about and grown this kind of rice.
In this half-day three activity excursion, Bang and Duyến will take us to visit their black rice field in Thuận Thành, Bắc Ninh. They will explain about the significance of this strain of rice, and its cultivation (NB the fields of course are not black leaves but its the strain of rice that is harvested).
Then we get to see how a well-known Bắc Ninh food specialty is prepared when we visit a household making Nem Bùi. Originating in Bùi village this is a favorite dish for many and an important one in Vietnamese cuisine. A type of ‘spring roll’ which incorporates rice and pork meat and eaten with fig leaves, particularly popular in the farming community.
And finally we head to Văn Lâm Distict in neighbouring Hưng Yên Province to explore the truly beautiful and ancient Chùa Nôm (Nôm Pagoda).
We head back to Hanoi around 12 noon
