Hải Phòng City Walk (ENG) a.m: Vietnamese and the Chinese Quarters during the 20th century

May 11 @ 8:30 AM - 11:30 AM

100,000VND

Introduction

We are excited to offer 2  explorations around the lovely city centre of Hải Phòng. The city is particularly popular for day trips or long weekends for people coming on food tours, but there are few detailed explorations into the city’s history, heritage and culture (unlike Hanoi).  There are some delighful alley ways, lovely old buildings holding rich history, welcoming local residents and a gentle atmosphere. We are trying out these 2 walks in May, scheduled for mornings so that you could make your visit into a weekend stay. 1 RSVP form for all walk dates.

Walk 2: Vietnamese and Chinese Quarters

This lasts about  2.5-3 hours and we explore a small part of the Vietnamese villages and the Chinese quarter in Hải Phòng (as they were during the French period). We will walk through mostly residential areas, but also visit a few temples, observing the existence of lovely old residential architecture that is still standing and occupied by the everyday residents of Hải Phòng.  Content also focuses on the role of river and water in the city during the 20th century, as well as how the locality has evolved and changed over the years.

Dates: this walk is run Sunday mornings 11 May and 25 May (suggestions arrive very early Sunday morning or come on the Saturday and make a long weekend of it)

Meeting point: Outside Hải Phòng train station (exact meeting point will be given to those confirmed on the walk)

Numbers: max 8 pax
