Cultural Series. Governed by the moon – the lunar calendar + the mid-autumn festival

September 22 @ 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM

250,000VND

For this month’s lecture/presentation we learn about the significance and importance of the lunar calendar in Vietnam.

Before the western solar calendar was adopted, Vietnam used the lunar calendar to determine when to plant and harvest and when to hold festivals and rituals. Nowadays the 2 calendars coexist and both are followed in life. The lunar calendar is still used to observe seasonal festivals, special occasions, and rituals.  The lunar calendar began with the year 2,637 BC and a lunar month is based on a complete moon cycle of 29.5 days.

Dr Trần Đoàn Lâm will explain its significance in detail including how the lunar calendar originated, its uses, how to read it and its use in daily modern life.  Also this year the mid Autumn festival falls on 17 September this month Lâm  will also talk about this event as its governed by the lunar calendar.
