Cultural Series – Lecture. “ Đông Sơn Tools; history, technology and style”. Talk with Mark Rapoport

May 8, 2019 @ 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM

150,000VND

There is something mystical about the Bronze Age.  It is amazing to find a tool or implement that was made and used by a person over 2000 years ago. The Bronze Age in Viet Nam began around 1000 BC when a civilization discovered that they could create metal  by heating certain rocks (called ores) until the metals came out of them. The Dong Son period was the first great civilization in Viet Nam, and most tools were made of bronze.

Bronze had many advantages over stone. It could be melted easily and molded into a variety of shapes, including tools, which could be made quite sharp. Most importantly, bronze items could be made quickly.  Eventually, bronze replaced other materials for most things, including tools and jewellery.
