Our film night feature movies about Vietnam – they may be old, iconic films, shorts, or contemporary. Produced and directed by Vietnamese film makers. Depending on the film we may sometimes invite the director to join us for Q&A. Our film nights used to be at Cinemateque. When it closed we moved to VFFS (Vietnam Feature Films Studios) before finding our new home with TPD.
“I see yellow flowers on the green grass” is a beautiful and moving film produced in 2015 by Vietnamese film director Victor Vu. It is based on the best-selling novel of the same name written by Nguyen Nhat Anh. The film is about the childhood story of two brothers, Thieu and Tuong in a peaceful village in central Vietnam in 1980s. It features their brotherhood as well as different emotional changes full of love, dream, hate, envy and regrets through their grown-up period.
With a beautiful landscape full of green grass, trees, yellow flowers, wind and sky, the film will take you back with a “free ticket” to your childhood – those innocent, magical and memorable days.
This film has won many accolades including:
- Highest prize of Golden Lotus for the best feature film in the 18th Vietnam Film Festival (2015)
- Selected as the Vietnamese entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 89th Academy Award
- Screened as the 2015 Cannes Film Festival
- Won Best Feature Film category of the Young People’s Jury Award under Toronto International Film Festival in 2016.
Location: TPD – The Centre for Development of Movie Talent, Floor 4, Building 18A Ngo Tat To, Van Mieu Street, Dong Da. A welcome email with location map/details will be sent to those confirmed a few days before film night.

We need to start on time in order to vacate the premises on time after the screening.
Since Covid and since TPD moved their premises we have not had a chance to hold our regular film night. We are now happy to be back in partnership with TPD who are very kindly letting us hold film night at their new premises. TPD used to be at the white villa at 51 Tran Hung Dao, which has now been renovated. They moved due the renovation work and are based in their new home near Van Mieu. Thank you TPD for hosting our FVH film nights.
