Excursion – Hạ Mỗ Village – POSTPONED

January 23, 2021 @ 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

380,000VND

THIS TOUR WAS NOT ABLE TO TAKE PLACE AS PLANNED.  IT WILL BE REARRANGED

We are back to Hạ Mỗ Village this year for more insights about the ancient land dating back to the Phùng Nguyên period about 3,500 years to 4,000 years ago ( according to the archaeological data). This trip could be of interest for history lovers and those who would like a city escape to this peaceful, friendly and picturesque suburban area.

Hạ Mỗ today is the land of Ô Diên Citadel in the past. Ô Diên Citadel dates back to the 6th century AD and is smaller and less famous than the old capitals of Thăng Long and Huế, but equally important. Fifteen centuries have passed, the vestiges of the citadel such as architecture, structure, and materials are difficult to identify. The traces of its old-time; however, are visible and can be understood through some relevant relics: Vạn Xuân Communal house, Hàm Rồng Temple, Chính Khí Temple, Văn Hiến Temple

During this trip, we will meet Mr Nguyễn Tọa, a Hạ Mỗ villager, former Vice- President of Hanoi Folk Arts Association, who is passionate about, and devoted to, the research and collection of Hạ Mỗ’s historical documents to pass on to the next generations of the village. Mr Tọa will accompany us in 3 main parts of the programme:

Morning
9 am – arrive at the village and meet our lovely hosts Mr Tọa. Visit Chính Khí Temple and listen to Mr Tọa’s talk about the ancient Ô Diên Citadel. Next, we move to Hàm Rồng Shrines – a relic relevant to the presence of Ô Diên Citadel and then Văn Hiến Temple, to learn about the life and work of General Tô Hiến Thành, where he is also buried. The Văn Hiến temple also houses some very old woodblocks.

Lunch
Noon – we will have a cooking class under the direction of 2  villagers.  We learn how to make the special Hạ Mỗ cháo se (porridge) which is a speciality of the village and can be eaten with chopsticks, plus the local bánh đúc (rice steamed cake). These dishes are two among several specialities of Hạ Mỗ representing the importance of rice in the Vietnamese’s daily life since the early time.

Afternoon
2 pm – move to the nearby beautiful and equally ancient atmospheric Hải Giác Pagoda and then the Vạn Xuân Communal house, before we leave this friendly village on the banks of the Nhuệ river.

Please note:

  1. If you follow a special diet which does not contain animal products, please consider bringing your packed lunch as the making of cháo se (porridge) requires pork bone broth.
  2. Please fill the Registration form with a single entry for each person, because we combine the registration with the collection of some personal data for the contact tracing of Covid 19 – as required by the local management board in Hạ Mỗ as standard procedure.
  3. Please dress respectfully as we will visit a number of places of worship.

Please gather at Pan Pacific Hotel, 1 Thanh Niên at 7.45 am to be ready to depart at 8.00 am. We return to Hanoi at about 4.30 pm.

Excursion is led by Ly and Anh
