Cultural Series – talk on Văn Miếu (The Temple of Literature)
December 10, 2021 @ 5:00 PM - 7:30 PM
200,000VND(to clarify this is a talk about Van Mieu not a walk/visit to it)
Welcome to one of FHVs most popular speakers. The amazing Dr Trần Đoàn Lâm retuns for another inspiring talk. He is an authority on almost every cultural and heritage topic, able to explain the complex in a really easy way. Lâm has just retired from his role as Editor in Chief of The Gioi Publishers (the largest foreign language publisheres in Vietam) to devote more time to the cultural organisation he is a member of – Đình làng Việt
We hold his talks in a small round table format – 10 to max 15 pax where we can learn and dsicuss in greater detail. This month the subject is on Văn Miếu – the Temple of Literature. Due to Lâm’s commitments it will be on Friday 10 December late afternoon. While this may not be a convenient time for many, we want to give it a go and he is very happy to do the talk even if for only a few people. It will also be recorded for part of another Kaleidoscope Viet radio show on Tet for the end of January.
Lâm will take us on a whilstlestop tour of one of Hanoi and Vietnam’s most iconic institutions, its history, contribution to education and its present day cultural importance, its importance on the first day of Tet, the signifiance of writing messages in Han script and why this tradition arose …….
Venue is Kymviet cafe, 91 Nguyễn Đình Thi, overlooking West Lake off Thuy Khue. The cafe is run by Ha (an inspiring young architect) who supports a group of deaf and dumb people to run the cafe. So your contributions by buying something off the menu will be a great support to them.
Please RSVP to Stella – stella@fvheritage.org
