Cultural Series. Talk/lecture on the History of Publishing in Vietnam
November 9, 2019 @ 2:00 PM - 4:30 PM
200,000VNDVietnam has a strong tradition in learning, partly thanks to the Confucian influence. The country has very high literacy rates, now 97.3% with a strong reading culture as shown by the fact Vietnam has more bookshops and publishing houses than other SE Asian countries.
We are delighted that Dr Trần Đoàn Lâm (Editor in Chief of Thế Giới publishers), one FVH’s favourite speakers, will talk about the HISTORY OF PUBLISHING IN VIETNAM. This is a whistlestop ‘tour’ covering the essentials of this industry in the country. From the influences of China, origins from ancient times to today, the selection, preparation, marketing of material, the technical and commercial aspects across the ages …
Publishing is the dissemination of literature, music, or information ie. the activity of making information available to the general public. It traditionally refers to the distribution of printed works, such as books (the “book trade”) and newspapers.
Lâm will present in his own unique style, in English, supported by his trusted blackboard.
[Thế Giới is Vietnam’s leading foreign language publishing house established in 1957. It introduces readers to Vietnam through publications in English, French, Chinese, Spanish, Russian, German and Japanese, as well as bilingual books and books in Vietnamese].
