Talk on VIETNAM ART UP TO THE YEAR 0: STONE, BRONZE AND CLAY
The story of Vietnamese Art and Culture starts in the Stone Age. The defined cultures, including their material culture (objects) go back over 10,000 years.
Dr. Mark Rapoport will introduce the material culture of the New-Stone-Age Phung Nguyen Culture (circa 4000 years ago), the Bronze-Age Dong Son culture (circa 2200 years ago) and the start of the Han-Viet period (about 100 AD).
Examples will be presented along with a discussion of the collecting of them.
Dr. Mark Rapoport is an American pediatrician who is a resident of Hanoi. He began collecting Vietnamese tribal art in 1969 and owns a gallery in Hanoi. Objects from his collection (both Vietnamese and African) are now housed in numerous museums in the U.S and in Vietnam.
This is one of Mark’s regular talks he gives FVH in his 54 Traditions gallery/shop.
