The development of contemporary art in Vietnam
This month’s private art gallery tour is at Suzanne Lecht’s Art Vietnam Salon Gallery (click on the link for more info on the gallery).
Suzanne, a very familiar face in Vietnam’s art world and the Hanoi community is one of the orignal/founding members of FVH. She will tell us about her personal story from being compelled to move to Vietnam in early 1994 to her amazing association with the now legendary Gang of Five artists – Hồng Việt Dũng, Hà Trí Hiếu, Đặng Xuân Hoà, Trần Lương and Phạm Quang Vinh. These five male artists from Hanoi, born in the early 1960s, are considered the pioneers of contemporary art in Vietnam.
Suzanne will lead us on a tour of the gallery, which is far more than a gallery. It is a beautiful 3 story house that she had built in 1994-96 with an ethnic minority White Thai house on the top floor.
Leading us from room to room and via the artworks on display she will relate the story of how contemporary art developed in Vietnam and her insight into the art world.
