Craft workshop: the different faces of Tuồng – nearly full
February 4 @ 9:00 AM - 12:30 PM
390,000VNDAS OF 31 JANUARY 5 SPACES AVAILABLE
Part talk, part workshop – full morning
We usually run the craft workshops on a weekend, but this time we have one on a weekday morning. And on a new topic. Linh, one of the young artists we partner with (who graduated from the Fine Arts University) has devised a new workshop based on the face painting tradition of Tuồng theatre.
Tuồng is often referred to as classical Vietnamese opera, its diferent to other genre of Vietnamese theatre such as Chèo. It uses a series of characters who are recognizable by their elaborate face make up and costumes. Their personalities are shown through the colour of the face, eyebrows and facial hair. The art of face make up is a distinctive and artistic feature of Tuồng.
Linh is interested in the face painting and the story telling of Tuồng and has created a workshop that combines drawing and painting the face ‘mask’ on dó paper and creating a collage. As its only a few weeks before Tết some elements of Hàng Trống painting can be incorporated into your overall design. You can make your collage/artwork as simple or as intricate as you like.
As the story behind Tuồng and its face painting is very interesting this is a 2 part event
