THIS WORKSHOP IS NOW FULL. PLEASE RSVP FOR THE WAITING LIST. THANKS
We are back at Chie for this month’s fabric workshop.
For November we make our own stuffed elephant
Many of you probably know Huyen, who started Textile Linker – dedicated to exploring traditional Vietnamese crafts. She has teamed up with Thuy who founded Chie Dù Pù Dù Pà in Hang Trong street to run a number of craft workshops. Huyen is tailoring some of the workshops for FVH and including some informative introductory talks which relate to the particular workshop.
We started the month making origami cats, and end it creating our own ethnic minority fabric stuffed elephant.
“Elephants have an enormous cultural and religious significance in Vietnam. Historically, images of elephants and of national heroes were often associated. During the Nguyen Dynasty ( 1802 – 1945), domestic elephants graced the Royal Courts and were revered by some of Vietnam’s ethnic minorities” (from EleAid)
We start with a half hour talk/show and tell about the ethnic minorities who contribute to this social enterprise and learn about some of the symbols and motifs that are both individual and common to these various groups. Then we spend a lovely few hours in creative bliss creating our own cute elephant, with stuffing and sewing and you can give him/her some individuality too.
