Craft workshop: Dó Paper lampshade/lantern making

September 14, 2019 @ 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM

VND380,000

Lampshade making

Another activity linked to the mid-autumn festival. This month we are making one type of lampshade from dó paper.

Zó project is a social business which preserves, supports and expands Vietnamese traditional paper ( paper) and its making technique in a sustainable and creative way.

The idea for the Zó project came from the passion of founder, Trần Hồng Nhung. Zó project is a young dynamic team bringing back traditional values into modern society. In return, profits are ploughed back into the paper-making community creating job opportunities and stable incomes for the ethnic minority in the Northern province .

FVH regularly teams up with the Zó project to run small workshops for FVH members – we benefit from a reduced price.

  • Calligraphy on dó paper
  • Book binding
  • Fan making
  • Making bracelets
  • Earring making
  • Lampshade making

Workshops are held in the Zó project shop top floor,  along Hanoi’s famous ‘railway street’ on the rail tracks. About 3.30pm a train will wiz past the shop.

This month’s Zó Project workshop is making dó paper lampshade/lantern

  • Summary about dó paper and how it is made
  • Introduction to the tools and materials used for making the lampshade (NB the light bulb with outlet are not provided)
  • Make your own ‘cone’ shaped lampshade

Duration:  appx 2 hours

Venue: Zo project shop (1st floor workshop). 10 Dien Bien Phu, near Hang Bong, half way up along the rail tracks

Max no of participants: 5 to very max 6 pax

380,000 vnd pp (adults, students and children pay the same – it is a direct cost to Zó) – but this is a reduced price for FVH. However, note it is slightly higher than other dó paper workshops as we use  a lot more paper
