Bookclub – the poet Xuân Diệu

For October 2019 we will be reading:
Love Poems by Xuân Diệu, a collection of translated poems on the theme of love composed by one of the most prolific and well-known poets of Vietnam.
Throughout his career, Xuân Diệu, one of the most outstanding representative of Thơ Mới Literary movement, had been variously known as a “romantic poet”, or “the greatest poet among the new poets”, or “the king of love poems”.
“With his language, Xuân Diệu has built a space of his own in Vietnamese literature,” said Vu Quan Phuong. “That means that by reading his poems, people can imagine a space of love, youth and vitality. His poems are bright, innocent and vivid. People may say a picture is worth a thousand words. In my opinion, his words are full of pictures.”
