The Moon Bamboo and other stories (volume I)
This is a collection of 38 Vietnamese tales and legends chosen and edited by the publisher. It is a means to enter the magic world of tradition, rural life, popular beliefs and myths of Vietnam. Each short story is given the name of an ethnic group of origin.
“On the distant moon, there lived a strong and handsome lad by the name of Con Ken. He could carry eight baskets of rice at one time, he ploughed furrows as straight as a carpenter’s line, and dredged ditches true as the woodman’s axe cuts. Ray Dinh had not yet spun a bobbin of thread when the moon reached its peak overhead. It was round like a dinner tray and shone brilliantly. At that time, Con Ken had just caught a deer and was carrying it home. Ray Dinh sat quietly gazing at the sky. Since that night, she dreamed of Con Ken as she slept, and when she awoke, she longed for him…” (From The Moon Bamboo)
