Author talk and musical peformance: The Mountains Sing by author Nguyễn Phan Quế Mai with Michael Moller

250,000VNDIn celebration of FVH’s 25th anniverary – we are delighted to confirm all the details for our talk and presentation with Nguyễn Phan Quế Mai, the author of The Mountains Sing. This is the book that the bookclub reviewed earlier this month. Danish musician Michael Moller wiill also join; he has composed many songs from the book and he is currently recording an album featuring these. With good fortune he is in Hanoi the same time as our event.
The evening is mix of Quế Mai reading extracts from the book (and maybe other books), and sharing her insight and thoughts, and Michael Moller will share some piano performances.
After event expenses proceeds will go to ‘Room to Reads’ for which Quế Mai is an ambassador. She is currently working with them to build a library for a school in one of Vietnam’s remote provinces that was damaged by the recent floods. Proceeds from our evening will go towards buying books for the library.

Michael Møller – is a renowned Danish singer and songwriter known for his diverse musical output within the last 20 years. He was born and raised in Northern Jutland where he formed his first band, moi Caprice. The band gained a lot of popularity during in the 00’s with four successful albums, which spawned numerous radio hits. Moi Caprice was awarded “Band of the Year” at the critics awards in 2007. They have toured big parts of the world. After a break the band reformed in the late 10’s and have released two further albums in recent years. In the 2012 he formed the band The Mountains. They kickstarted their career with a couple of major radio hits, one of them – The Valleys – featured in the soundtrack for the famous FIFA14 videogame. The band has released two further albums and have played some of the largest stages in Denmark. Michael Møller has also released two solo projects. 2011’s A Month of Unrequited Love was a song cycle consisting of 31 songs released throughout a month. It later turned into the first crowdfunded album in Danish music history and gained a lot of praise winning him two awards the “Composer of the Year” at the Critics Award and “Innovator of the Year” at the Danish Music Award. Michael Møller has worked in different other constellations. Along with the Danish folk musicians Foreign Lands he released an album and an EP exploring the border land between Scandinavian folk and alternative music. With the multicultural Kidmo Laran he released an EP with Middle-Eastern-inspired ambient popmusic. And he’s worked several times in Vietnam with local artists and musicians as well as writing music for DR, the Danish broadcasting company.
