FVH is delighted offer a small group the chance to meet one of Vietnam’s 1st and influential installation artists Đặng Thị Khuê at her home. This is an informal morning where we can chat to her about her life, where she gets her inspiration from, the history of Đổi Mới and the renovation period in the art world, her thoughts on the past, present and future of Vietnam’s art and how she sees the history and social influences of Vietnam through art.
Max 10 people due to limited space
Đặng Thị Khuê was born in 1946, graduated from Hanoi Fine Arts University in 1976, former member of The Steering Committee of Vietnam Fine Arts Association 1978 – 1983, Secretariat of Vietnam Visual Artists Association (Renovation- Doi Moi period) from 1984 to 1989, member of the National Assembly 7.
Her works were influenced by Vietnamese native art the most, then family and her living areas which saw a lot of changes. She was born to an intellectual family in Hanoi but she was close to the countryside at a young age. She said that with a Vietnamese sense and way of art approach, an altar at the corner of house in Vietnam could become installation artwork.
Khue’s installation work is considered an adventure backing the past in order to understand more about the Vietnamese country and also herself. And for the painter, art is a search and we may fail to find it. So, the nature of creativity is adventurous and aimless and this is the purity of the art and of those coming to it.
Venue is her home in Thanh Xuân Bắc not too far from Royal City. Address details will be given to those who register. Options to meet there or we meet at Long Bien bus stop and travel by 22 bus.
