Workshop – put your dancing shoes on! The múa nón lá – conical hat dance
September 10, 2023 @ 2:00 PM - 4:30 PM
400,000VNDAS OF 31 AUGUST – MAX 10 SPACES AVAILABLE
Thanks to one of our lovely FVH members who is a dancer, we have been introduced to 2 young professional dancers – Giang and Huệ from the Vietnam Academy of Dance – who will run our first ever FVH dance workshop! And we hope the first of many in the future.
The múa nón lá – conical hat dance – is a beautiful and cultural dance popular throughout Vietnam. The dance incorporates various swift movements holding a hat, while the conical hat represents the hard work of farmers harvesting their crops.
This afternoon we learn the basic movements in this fun workshop for all levels and abilities, ending with us performing a short routine.
This is a 2 part activity. After a short introduction to dance in Vietnam (a huge topic in itself), we will watch and understand more about 3 traditional dance performances each from the North, Centre and South of Vietnam performed by professionally trained dancers.
The 2nd and main part of the afternoon is we get to learn how to dance the múa nón lá. This workshop is for women – as we are learning the women’s conical hat dance – and everyone taking part must wear an áo dài. You are welcome to wear your own or Giang and Huệ can bring áo dais for those who do not have one.
We get to practice in a professional dance studio near Văn Miếu – full details will be sent to those who are confirmed on the workshop.
This workshop really is for ANY level and will be fun. It really doesn’t matter if you are already very or quite experienced in dancing or if you are a total beginner with absolutely no coordination or dancing ability. The aim is to learn something new with a group of friends and just have fun. So please do not worry if you think you cannot dance.
For this workshop to take place we need a min 12 to max 20 people. We need to cover quite a few expenses but mainly we would love a group of 20 as the performance at the end with all of us dressed in áo dais and holding hats will look stunning – the bigger the group the more impressive.
Please RSVP to stella – stella@fvheritage.org
Please confirm if you will wear your own áo dai or if you need Giang and Huệ to bring you one. In which case state your height with no shoes on, waist measurements and your usual dress size.
Fee 400,000 VND for everyone – cost includes professional dance studio hire, hire of props, and fee for professional dancers
This event is for adults (16 years old and above)
