Due to popular demand, we are running the Thạch Xá bamboo dragon fly making workshop again as a 2-part trip with the gorgeous ancient Thầy Pagoda. Its a nice activity to have just before Christmas – to make your own dragonfly Christmas presents. (We previously ran this as part of the Vietnam Festival of Media and Design).
Thạch Xá craft village (appx 35-40 km from Hanoi) is famous for the wonderful coloured (balancing) bamboo dragonflies. Originally made for children to play with, the trade has blossomed into one of Vietnam’s leading crafts. We visit the village, meet the first bamboo dragonfly making artisan and learn about this wonderful and intriguing craft.
Our bamboo dragon fly workshop follows a morning visit to the Thầy Pagoda, situated at the foot of Sài Sơn Mountain. Closely associated with the myth of monk Từ Đạo Hạnh, it is a 900-year-old unique ancient structure surrounded by mountains, caves, lakes and bridges creating a peaceful and charming landscape.
