August 20, 2023 @ 9:30 AM - 12:00 PM

THIS IS CURRENTLY FULL BUT PLEASE RSVP FOR THE WATING LIST IN CASE OF A LAST MINUTE CANCELLATION
This is the 2nd time we are running this workshop – the first time was in February and it was very successful
For this workshop we partner with Hong Ky (who will interpret and help guide) and Sầm Thị Tình who established Hoa Tien Brocade.
This is a 2 part morning event:
(1) general introduction to ethnic minority textiles and exploring Tinh’s workshop and display area followed by
(2) a beginner’s batiq dyeing workshop where we make our own design, draw it with the wax and then dye it. We only have time for 1 dye. A much richer colour needs 5-6 dyes where the material has to dry between the dyes; so you can leave your samples with the Hoa Tien team who will continue dyeing and you can arrange to collect your work later.
Tinh is Thai ethnic from Nghe An Province and she and her husband set up Hoa Tien Brocade. Some of you already know her. For those who don’t know Hoa Tien we are running this small group workshop for those who want to learn about batiq natural dyeing.
We learn how to draw the design and the cold dye process with indigo dye using the batik method on a 50x50cm cotton sample.
Hoa Tien is in Mễ Trì Thượng not far from the JW Marriott (and National Convention Centre) in My Dinh so please allow time to get here . Location map other information will be sent to those confirmed on the workshop.
