Hồng Ký, who we partner with for our dó paper workshops, has moved her studio to Đông Anh near Cổ Loa, near the banks of the Hoàng Giang River.
Her longer term plan is to open a small cultural/artistic centre nearby for art and music workshops and in the near future she will run actual dó paper making workshop in the grounds of her studio to make paper from scratch.
Our workshop for April (9.30am start)
Given summer has come early and we all need a fan, we will make a dó paper fan each. Its more challenging than it looks. (The last time we had a fan making workshop was in 2018 when Hồng Ký was based on train street in a tiny study overlooking the rail tracks).
Workshop includes:
- Information on dó paper for those who don’t know about the paper
- All materials for making the fan and instruction
- Some refreshments
Hồng Ký has only just set up in her current venue and its lovely, simple, and very rustic. Its in a part of Đông Anh that has so far escaped the rapidly spreading urban developments and once you are off the main road it feels like you are in the countryside.
Note that her workshop space is outside undercover and we are heading for hot weather. So if its too hot outside or if its raining we will hold the workshop inside.
This is a multipart activity with a choice of 3 options:
option 1. 2-3 hours – Workshop only (duration 9.30am-11.30am/12noon. Cost of workshop VND 390k pp)
option 2. Half day – Workshop followed by vegan lunch (duration 9.30am to about 1.30pm. Workshop VND390k pp + separate contribution for lunch paid direct to her friend Trang who will cook -VND 200k pp. Trang owns 3 veggie restaurants in Hanoi)
option 3. Full day from 9.30am – Workshop, vegan lunch and exploring the area near the studio where she will also explain about some of the plants and trees growing around + a visit to her neighbour’s house, if she is home, who lives right on the river with a lovely view area, and then probably a quick visit to Cổ Loa by public bus, or motorbike, taxi share. (Workshop VND390k pp + vegan lunch VND 200k pp)

Excludes transport fee for getting to and from her studio
Transport options
- #43 bus from Kim Ma or Long Bien bus stations (route and photos re what to look for will be in the welcome email) – takes about 20-30 mins by bus + waiting time

- Own bike etc.
