The Yao or Dao, in north Vietnam, are one of the 54 ethnic minorities. Each ethnic group has its own lifestyles, customs, traditions, worship faiths. Ancestral and gods worship is central to the spiritual lives of the ethnic people living in Vietnam’s northern regions including the Dao or Yao. A fascinating look behind the scenes at the State Records and Archives Department of Vietnam Centre no. 1 which holds pre-1945 documents, with a major concentration from the Nguyen Dynasty 1802-1945 which includes the French Colonial period. As the period is pre-1945 the archives also holds documents long before Nguyen Dynasty, the oldest document dates from the 15th century in 1488. 5km of documents are stored here.
