Hanoi City Walk (English): CHRISTMAS DAY – Lê Duản street & surrounding area

CHRISTMAS DAY MORNING

Join us for a Christmas Day morning stroll down Lê Duản street and the surrounding area. Starting at Cửa Nam we explore the history of the former south gate, the nearby streets and stories of the area, find out who was the ‘French Lady with the flared skirt, where were parasols were traded, which is one of Hanoi’s original Phở gà stalls, what used to be where ‘Quan An Ngon’ is, where was the Mandarin road, what was originally on the site of Hanoi railway station,  who was Lê Duản the man himself ..…..

Most of what we talk about has sadly long gone but there are some great stories which bring it alive together with  memories, and photos of what hopefully will be an eclectic whistle-stop tour through history of the Lê Duản area.  Shortly into the start of the walk have a short stop at a near by cafe for those who would like some refreshments while we learn about this cafe’s claim to fame.

Starting point: Chợ Cửa Nam, at Tran Hung dao opposite Hanoi railway station
