SUMMARY:Workshop/mini excursion: Bá Dương Nội Village (kite making) - POSTPONED
DESCRIPTION:POSTPONED DUE TO COVID-19 SITUATION IN CONSULTATION WITH OUR EVENT HOSTS.  \nBá Dương Nội village is a 1\,000 year-old kite making village; generations have kept this tradition alive. The kites are made in the shapes of crescent moons or boats\, with wooden bamboo flutes attached. The wind passes through the flutes making lovely soft haunting melodies.  The village dates back to the 10th century Dinh dynasty and Bá Dương Nội has a reputation as one of Vietnam’s major kite flying centres. \n(to quote from VoV): “The elderly say once upon a time when heaven and earth were close\, heaven’s fairies often came down to attend earth’s festivals. But one day\, the heaven rose higher and higher. The fairies couldn’t come down. People on earth made kites as a way to restore contact with the heaven. People attached bamboo flutes to the kites to call the fairies to the earth’s festivals.” \nWe are delighted Mr Nguyễn Hữu Kiêm\, President of the Hong Ha Kite Club has agreed to take time out of his busy schedule to host this\, our 4th workshop and visit\, to the village where we learn how to make a miniature version of the village’s iconic kites. \nThis is now a regular feature in our calendar – the workshop takes place before we visit the village’s kite festival on the 15th day 3rd lunar month). \nThis is an afternoon activity where we make 1-2 small kites each. Feel free to bring additional items to decorate the kites such as light items to stick on your kite or colouring pencils. Mr Kiêm will also talk about the history of kite making in the village and the special flute kites. If there is enough wind we will try flying the kites we make. \nDonation:   350\,000 vnd per adult\, 180\,000 vnd per child under 15.   Includes kite making materials\, workshop fee\, talk and transport. \nMaximum 16 people – please note the max number as we need to keep the workshop small to ensure its logistically manageable for Kiêm\, including the available space. Therefore\, if you know you definitely want to join please RSVP asap. If you register and then cannot come please inform us asap so that we can fill your place \n12.30pm: Depart from Pan Pacific Hotel\, on Yên Phụ Rd \nappx 1.30pm : Arrive Bá Dương Nội village \n1.30pm- 4pm: Flute Kite talk with Mr Kiêm.
