SUMMARY:Film night - Chuyện tử tế (The Story of Kindness)
DESCRIPTION:We are excited to be screening a fascinating documentary film for October: \nChuyện tử tế (The Story of Kindness – also referred to as How to Behave) by Director Trần Văn Thủy \nWe are honoured that Thủy will attend our movie night. He will introduce the film which will be followed by Q&A with him. \n \n“The idea of “kindness” or “tử tế” in Vietnamese\, has its origin in two old Chinese-Vietnamese words. “Tử” means the smallest element while “tế” is the subtlest matter. These two words combined mean that we have to pay attention to the smallest details.” \nThe story and the film start from the last words spoken by one of the director’s friends that people should do something to heal human sadness. The film is structured like a film essay\, narrated in the 1st person. It is a film of great importance and it was banned in Vietnam when it was first released but then the ban was lifted. \nBut what else does “kindness” mean? \nThe documentary made by Trần Văn Thủy\, considered an acclaimed Vietnamese documentary film Director\, tells stories of human life and fate equally applicable to today’s world. \nThe documentary won the Silver Dove award in Leipzig International Film Festival after it was released in 1985 and the foreign press called it “the bomb from Vietnam which exploded in the city of Leipzig”. \nFilm is 50-minute long with English subtitles. \nNOTE THIS MONTH’S FILM STARTS AT 7PM NOT 7.30PM DUE TO THE DIRECTOR’S SCHEDULE \nLocation: TPD – The Centre for Development of Movie Talent\, 51 Tran Hung Dao\, Hanoi. \nYour reservation is not confirmed until you receive our reply email. \nPlease arrive by 6.50pm latest to collect and pay for your ticket at TPD.
