SUMMARY:Lecture/presention by Ted Hammett - memories of Vietnam before\, during and after the war
DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to invite Ted Hammett as a long time supporter\, member and great friend of FVH while he was working in Vietnam.  Although he has moved back to the US he still keeps in  close contact with FVH. \nTed’s association\, friendship and love of Vietnam goes back to when he was a young marine in the American war.  He is back for a short Hanoi visit and will spend an entertaining Sunday afternoon recounting the experiences of his time in Vietnam before\, during and after the war and his subsequent working life in Hanoi. \nHe shares his poignant and bittersweet memories and reflections  in thought and writing. He ‘explores the complexities of personal identity\, family\, war\, tragedy\, reconciliation\, and redemption with great clarity and engaging wit’ \nIn 1968\, Ted (Theodore) Hammett entered a war he believed was wrong\, pressured by his father’s threat to disown him if he withdrew from a Marine Corps officer candidate program. He hated the war and all that it entailed. As supply officer at a field hospital uncomfortably near the DMZ\, he employed thievery\, bargaining and lies to secure supplies for his unit and retained his sanity with the help of alcohol\, music and the promise of going home …. \nIn 2008\, he returned to Vietnam for a five-year “second tour” to assist in improving HIV/AIDS policies and prevention programs in Hanoi.  He fell in love with Vietnam and the people and in this event he will fondly remember his time in Vietnam\, which became his second home. \nTim:e 2pm-4.30pm \nvenue change – we have moved the event to THE HANOI CLUB\, LANG YEN PHU\,  https://goo.gl/maps/t3nz5h5zBGtSvwSQ8 \n  \nThis event is free to attend – FVH members and Ted’s former work colleagues and his friends who are still in Hanoi are all warmly welcome to attend \nplease RSVP to stella – stella@fvheritage.org \n  \n  \nPlease follow and like us:Share this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)Click to share on Google+ (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Like this:Like Loading...\n\n	Related\n
