SUMMARY:Hanoi City Walk (English) p.m – from bronze to food\, stories of Trúc Bạch Lake & Ngũ Xã – FULL
DESCRIPTION:THIS WALK IS ARRANGED FOR THOSE ON THE WAITING  LISTS FROM THE PREVIOUS 2 WALKS  (remember it is always worth RSVPing even when a walk is full as where possible we will try to repeat it for the waiting list). \nAn eclectic walk touching on bronze casting\, and the general changes to the area\, the former and present lives of the land and buildings.  We start the tour at Quán Thánh temple\, the almost purely Taoist temple with 350-year-old bronze statue of Trấ́́n Vũ.  We refer to legends around Trúc Bạch lake – stories\, history of the area\, the part the young people played in Hanoi’s reconstruction after the French war\, and silk making in the old days. On Ngũ Xã ‘island’ at the east end of Trúc Bạch lake we hear about how a special bronze statue was made and  how the island’s fame and fortune turned from bronze to food. The walk ends outside the Đúc Đồng Ngũ Xã bronze casting showroom at 178 Trấn Vũ – home and business of Mr Nguyễn Văn Ưng\, whose family has over 400years bronze casting history. \n2.45pm meet in Highland coffee near Quan Thanh Temple\, end at 178 Tran Vu – the walk lasts about 2hrs 45 mins (time is TBC depending if the pagoda on Ngu Xa is open or closed) – Exact details will be sent in the welcome email to those confirmed on the walk \nRSVP to  stella@fvheritage.org \nVery max 8 spaces \n  \n  \n©1999 Friends of Vietnam Heritage.
