SUMMARY:Half-day excursion: the craft of “preserving the spirit” of the national flag
DESCRIPTION:Vietnam’s national spirit through the national flag \nthôn Từ Vân\, xã Lê Lợi\, Thường Tín\, Hà Nội \nTừ Vân Village\, located in the southern suburbs of Hanoi\, about 30km from the city center\, is famous for Vietnam’s National flag making\, embroidery and weaving.   Even our FVH organizing team could not imagine this amazing opportunity would present itself just in time as Vietnam’s National Day drew near.   As you can imagine\, this is an extremely  busy period for the artisan families making the national flag and other memorabilia for the 2nd September celebrations. However\, they are happy to welcome a small group from FVH and we didn’t want to miss this chance.  We ask for flexibility and to go with the flow; this will also be a recce for us to plan a more detailed visit to the village for another time\, (hence there will be other chances to come along if you can’t get onto this  Sunday’s visit). This village is always busy. Those on the waiting list for 24th August will have priority for the next visit. \nA welcome email with detailed instructions will be sent to those who are confirmed 2 days before the event. \nOutline plan: \n8:40 AM meet at the gas station near Từ Vân on the highway. Meeting point:  Thắng Lợi gas station  MAP LINK – this will also be clarified in the welcome email for those confirmed on the trip. \n9:00 – 11:00 AM quick introductions\, and then we separate into 3 groups to watch the different processes of making the national flag. Each group will have 20 minutes to observe and then switch to the next station as the family has limited space\, plus we can’t disturb them during their production time. During the observation\, we are so excited – we all have a chance to paint a yellow star on our own little red flag. This is a small gift from FVH to all of you\,  to take home after drying. \nTiming: depart our homes in Hanoi in enough time for us all to arrive by8:40 AM at the gas station  meeting point. We need to all go together to visit the family arriving 9:00 AM. We will return to Hanoi about 11:00 AM or if you are flexible with your time\, you are welcome to stay on and join the FVH organizers to explore the village in more detail on foot. \nVery max 10 ppl.  as of 20 August morning there are 5 available slots. \nAttendance is strictly restricted to a small group size to ensure enough time for a quality experience and enough space to see the flag making process. Alow we need to respect the limited working space and requirements of the flag making artisans. \nRSVP is  a first come first served. Once the spaces are full for this excursion we will have a waiting list for a repeat visit.  Registration via this link before Aug 23rd\, 2025:   \nhttps://forms.gle/cPjUuZAV7LEfYLdz8 \nThe excursion is led by Ly (VN with ENG translation) \n150\,000 VND/person includes gift and donatation to the artisan family. Excludes transport from/to your homes in Hanoi to our meeting point in the village and any other personal expenses such as souveniers and refreshments. \n  \n  \n©1999 Friends of Vietnam Heritage.
