SUMMARY:Film Night: Sandy Lives (Đời cát)
DESCRIPTION:This complex\, engaging film from the late 90s by director Thanh Van is based on the excellent script of writer Nguyen Quang Lap who was inspired by novel Three people at the train station by Huu Phuong. The film deals with the long-lasting effects of war on people’s lives in a sea-side village somewhere in Central Viet Nam. \nA man named Canh\, is returning to his village after a 20 years absence\, after Vietnam’s reunification. His wife\, Thoa\, has been faithfully awaiting his return. However\, her hopes of reuniting with her husband and quietly passing their days together is given a swift kick into the dust. The unpleasant reality is that he has remarried and fathered a child during his absence. Will Canh stay with Thoa or will he continue his new life with his second wife\, Tam? \nSkillfully acted and directed\, Sandy Lives is full of subtleties and cultural insights\, particularly for non-Vietnamese. Sau ngày miền Nam hoàn toàn giải phóng\, ông Cảnh (Đơn Dương) rời đơn vị chiến đấu ở miền Bắc để trở về thăm quê bên kia giới tuyến và Thoa (Mai Hoa)\, người vợ tần tảo đang chung thủy chờ ông. \nNhưng sự trở về đó thật cay đắng. Thoa nhanh chóng nhận ra chồng mình đã có tổ ấm khác khi thấy Tâm (Hồng Ánh)\, cô vợ thứ hai của ông Cảnh cũng tìm về. Khi mối quan hệ giữa ba người ngày càng căng thẳng\, Tâm quyết định ra đi.
