DESCRIPTION:THIS WORKSHOP IS NOW FULL. PLEASE RSVP FOR THE WAITING LIST  \nAlways one of our most popular workshops so we like to run this 3-4 times a year. \nDuong Thi Thanh and her team at the Indigo Store preserve and restore the traditional culture of the Black Tay ethnic minority in Sapa\, supporting 120 producers across 7 different ethnic minorities in the production of organic plants\, handmade textiles and employ disabled/deaf staff helping them have a sustainable livelihood etc. \nIndigo is a deep rich violet-blue colour named after the indigo dye extracted from leaves of the Indigofera tincoria plant which grows in tropical climates. It is probably the most famous of all natural dyes made by crushing the plant leaves and fermenting them in water. \nThis is a great workshop for those particularly interested in: \n\nProduction of dyes particularly indigo dyes\nTextiles and design and in particular how they relate to the Tay culture\nEthnic minority cultures in general\n\nWe learn how the indigo plant is grown\, about the dye extraction and how Indigo needs nurturing just like a child…   we see the vats of indigo\, design ideas and we make/dye our own small square indigo tie-dye sample with the help of the Indigo store’s deaf/disabled staff. \n250\,000 vnd pp (adults) / 150\,000 (students & under 15s) (includes talk\, material and dye to make our sample\, and donation to the ethnic minorities in Sapa to help keep alive this craft) \nVenue: The Indigo Store\, 33A Van Mieu street\, opposite the Temple of Literature \nMax: 10 people \nDuration: 9.30am-11.00am \nThe are 2 ways to make the tie-dye sample.
