DESCRIPTION:BOXING DAY CITY WALK \nTHIS WALK IS FULL – PLEASE RSVP FOR THE WAITING LIST \n \nTràng Tiền and surrounding roads such as Hàng Bài\, Bà Triệu\, Hàng Khay etc. are familiar to most of us. As we stroll these streets we will touch on the area’s development from the early days of Hanoi through the French period to the present time\, hear some of its eclectic stories and history\, notes on theatre and the cinema and the former ‘lives’ of some familiar and not so familiar buildings.  Hopefully you will discover things you didn’t know about these well-known streets and buildings. \nOur simple but detailed route will take us from the steps of the Opera House\, down Tràng Tiền towards Hoàn Kiếm lake\, into Hàng Bài\, towards Hàm Long and back up to Bà Triệu and Hàng Khay with a few interesting hidden diversions on the way. \nThis is one on of our longer walks so allow up to 3 hours. SUMMARY:Hanoi City Walk (English) p.m – Trúc Bạch Lake & Ngũ Xã - FULL
DESCRIPTION:BOXING DAY AFTERNOON \nTHIS WALK IS FULL PLEASE RSVP FOR THE WAITING LIST \n \nAlthough we have run this walk a few times this year\, it seems to one that is traditionally held on Boxing Day afternoon so this year is no different. \nThe theme of this wak is very eclectic touuching on bronze casting\, and the general changes to the area\, the former and present lives of the land and buildings.  We start the tour at Quán Thánh temple\, the almost purely Taoist temple with 350-year-old bronze statue of Trấ́́n Vũ.  We refer to legends around Trúc Bạch lake – stories\, history of the area\, the part the young people played in Hanoi’s reconstruction after the French war\, and silk making in the old days. On Ngũ Xã island at the east end of Trúc Bạch lake we hear about how a special bronze statue was made and  how the fame of the island turned from bronze to food. The walk ends outside the Đúc Đồng Ngũ Xã bronze casting showroom at 178 Trấn Vũ – home and business of Mr Nguyễn Văn Ưng\, whose family has over 400years bronze casting history.
