SUMMARY:Hanoi City Walk (English) – Lê Duản street & surrounding area - FULL
DESCRIPTION:This walk is now full.  Please RSVP for the waiting this. Thanks \nOn the surface this may be an unusual route (unique to FVH) but its packed with many fascinating stories that have shaped the history of Lê Duản street and the surrounding area. Starting at Cửa Nam we explore the area of former south gate\, find out who was the ‘French Lady with the flared skirt and what happened to her\, where parasols were traded\, which is one of Hanoi’s original Phở gà stalls\, what did ‘Quan An Ngon’ used to be\, where was the Mandarin road\, what was originally on the site of Hanoi railway station\,  and who was Lê Duản the man himself. \nMost of what we talk about has sadly long gone but some fascinating stories  bring it back to life with  memories\, and photos of what hopefully will be an eclectic whistle-stop tour through history of the Lê Duản area.  Shortly into the start of the walk have a short stop at a near by cafe for those who would like some refreshments while we learn about this cafe’s claim to fame. \nStarting point: Chợ Cửa Nam\, at Tran Hung dao opposite Hanoi railway station \nRSVP:  Stella \nVery max 9 spaces available  \nPlease follow and like us:Share this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)Click to share on Google+ (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Like this:Like Loading...

SUMMARY:Music - Afternoon music recital – songs from around the world for peace. The Hope Choir
DESCRIPTION:THE HOPE CHOIR. \nIf you have not met The Hope Choir before you will be amazed by their singing. If you already know them then they need no introduction. FVH has supported them ever since they were formed\, they are like our extended family. And we do everything we can to try to promote their recitals and to gather an audience. \nThey are a group of blind or severely visually impaired singers and folk musicians. They are an amazing choir – not because of their disabilities but because they simply are stunning at what they do.  The choir was set up about 15 years ago by pianist Ton That Triem and his opera singer wife Xuan Thanh. What they have achieved with minimal funds and little resource is incredible. \nTriem teaches them the meaning of each word\, they transcribe the lyrics into braille\, they learn the songs from braille and sing in the language of that song – from Spanish\, Sri Lankan\, to Portuguese\, English\, French\, Japanese etc. They need the support of the international community to keep going; the Embassy community is traditionally a wonderful support for them as the choir sings at many national days.  Some of the choir come from families where 2-3 of the siblings are also blind. They come from lives which are very hard and yet for many they have made incredible personal achievements – even going abroad to study\, getting masters degrees. \nThere is no entry cost but those coming from FVH we always have an FVH donation envelope for them. The recital is open to everyone as Triem invites his network of people. \n3pm-5pm Sunday 25 September \nVenue  The blind centre/bline massage centre at 21b Lạc Trung\, off Kim Ngưu Street.  (but it’s not mentioned on any map as a blind centre). it is next to Nguyen Dinh Chieu School. https://goo.gl/maps/bRaMfzGS4y3mMZr5A \nthere is an alley with 21b on the gate post\, to the left hand side of the school as you face the school\, go down the alley to the end is a white building and it is here. \nEveryone is welcome to come but if you know you are definately coming please let Stella know so that we can keep spaces for FVH  stella@fvheritage.org \nPlease follow and like us:Share this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)Click to share on Google+ (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Like this:Like Loading...
