SUMMARY:Hanoi City Walk (English) - the trees of Quảng An ward\, Tây Hồ - FULL
DESCRIPTION:BRAND NEW FVH WALKING ROUTE \nTHIS WALK IS NOW FULL. PLEASE RSVP FOR THE WAITING LIST \nHave you walked  the streets and appreciated those flaming red petals against the grey asphalt? Or tripped over the roots of a tree while trying to slalom the pavements\, but not knowing what to curse? Or just appreciated the shades of a wide green canopy with some green strings hanging out? \nThis walk takes you through the alleys of Quảng An\, Tây Hồ around West Lake in search for some peculiar plants. We learn to recognise some common plants (trees and leaves in particular) that grow in the area and some of their functions in nature\, why they may have been planted there\, how the same species flourishes differently depending on the location. We link places to some legends of the lake and Hanoi … but please note that this tour will focus on trees\, and not the history of West Lake. \nThe tour will take approximately 2.5 hours.  Appr walking distance: 5km \nMaximum: 7 people \nPlease RSVP to Elisabeth\nEmail: zlatanisking@gmail.com (and inclldue your mobile number) \n  \nElisabeth Simelton is a geographer who has seen Hanoi on-off since the mid-1990s. She works with research on rural development and adapting agriculture to environmental change in Southeast Asia. \n  \nPlease note at this changeable period due to COVID-19 that events are subject to government and local authority advice plus the agreement with our hosts; some events may need to be postponed at the last minute; we hope this won’t happen\, but we will keep you updated.  If you have any questions\, please contact us at hello@fvheritage.org. SUMMARY:Hanoi city walk (English): Nguyễn Công Trứ Street and surrounding area - FULL
DESCRIPTION:FULL \nPLEASE SIGN UP FOR THE WAITING LIST AS PEOPLE MAY DROP OUT AND/OR WE RUN THIS WALK AGAIN FOR THOSE ON THE WAITING LIST \nOur walk starts outside number 5D Hàm Long street\, where the first Communist Party Cell of Hanoi was established. Then along Lò Đúc Street to the Pasteur gardens\, and outside the National Institute of Hygiene & Epidemiology (originally the Pasteur Institute). Back up Lò Đúc and to Nguyễn Công Trứ Street. We will mention some of the buildings from the French era\, which sadly have been pulled down to make way for various developments. Carry on to Hai Bà Trưng Lake and the temple complex opposite where we touch on the Hai Bà Trưng sisters’ era and their contribution to Vietnamese history. For the final part of the walk we will meander the lanes and alleys of amazing Cho Giời (sky market/Hoa Binh market)\, one of Hanoi’s huge and intriguing city markets specialised in one genre of goods. We end the walk where the market meets Phố Huế. \nThis eclectic walk touches on a number of influences that shaped Hanoi’s life. From the communist party to medical Hanoi\, from Indochinese architectural style to the alcohol industry\, from the Hai Bà Trưng sisters and worship to the best market where you can find every possible type of tool and spare car part. \nPlease note that due to covid restrictions is very likely that the places of worship we visit will be closed so we talk about them outside. \nRSVP to Stella \nMax 7 pax \nPlease note at this changeable period due to COVID-19 that events are subject to government and local authority advice plus the agreement with our hosts; some events may need to be postponed at the last minute; we hope this won’t happen\, but we will keep you updated.  If you have any questions\, please contact us at hello@fvheritage.org.
