HENCE PLEASE RSVP FOR THE WAITING LIST IN CASE SPACES BECOME AVAILABLE. \nThe 2nd of our events with embroidery artist Phạm Ngọc Trâm \nThis morning we have a 4 hour embroidery workshop making a 8 x 10cm sample. Suitable for all level of skills (level of difficulty: beginner) \nBackground \nGold-thread embroideries have been cherished as some of the most exquisite designs all over the world and hold an important role in textile history of many civilizations\, from East asian’ dragons and phoenix\, Indian sarees\, to the UK’s royal robes and French haute couture. \nIn Vietnam\, traditional golden thread embroidery is found on precious royal robes and in sacred places of worship. \nIn ancient times\, it took 5 – 8 years for an embroiderer to learn their trade and become super professional\, but here are a few techniques including gold thread embroidery that we can all try nowadays. \nEmbroidery artist Phạm Ngọc Trâm will share her insights and give step by step instruction of ‘gold thread embroidery’ when we make one of the most iconic ancient patterns: “khánh vân”  = the joyful cloud pattern.   This motif is rich in cultural meaning and highly versatile in its application. We will be guided through every step of this process\, from drawing the traditional design\, to stitching and finishing techniques and some alternative design tips. \nInstruction in English. Trâm speaks fluent ENG \nWorkshop  \n\nLearn the techniques of gold thread embroidery\, from preparing the base to handling and securing the gold threads with precision.\nDiscover golden thread embroidery in Vietnamese embroidery art artifacts\, in comparison with Chinese\, Japanese and Korean gold embroidery\nAll materials provided for this workshop – fabric\, thread\, frames etc.\nFor those who are more advanced at sewing/embroidery you are welcome to bring your own tools and/or frame.
