SUMMARY:Tour (English): Behind the scenes – State Records & Archives Department of Vietnam
DESCRIPTION:Records and archives are vital documents to record major key activities\, decisions and evidence of government; preserving such past records gives access to and keeps alive the past.  As UNESCO says: “State records and national archives are vital institutions that serve as the institutional memory\, safeguard of democracy and legal backbone of any country” \nThanks to a former FVH member and friend\, FVH is proud to have a wonderful friendship and collaboration with the State Records and Archives Department of Vietnam. This morning we hold a behind the scenes visit to Archives Centre  3\, which holds post-1945 to present day records. \nWe meet the Director – Trần Việt Hoa– and some of her team for a fascinating tour to see the Archives work in progress. We hold these tours a few times a year with both centres but its been a few years since our last one.  We get to see how paper documents\, film\, audio\, photos and personal items are catalogued and stored. Look close up at original documents signed by people such as Hồ Chí Minh and General Võ Nguyên Giáp– items such as these are national treasures. We learn about the rules of archiving and the future plans the archives and hear about the origins\, development and the aspirations of Vietnam’s National Archives. \nFVH is in a unique and privileged position to be able to run these events with Centres 1 and 3 in Hanoi. Today we visit centre 3. \n\nHanoi: Archives Centre no. 1 holds Colonial records (pre-1945)\nSaigon: Archives Centre no. 2 holds Republic of Vietnam records.\nHanoi: Archives Centre no.3 holds Post-1945 records of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam\nDa Lat: Archives Centre 4 Nguyen Dynasty woodblocks\n\nNumbers. 5 minimum to very maximum 8 people. \nWhen registering please also give your nationality + mobile number. \nPlease RSVP to Stella \nWelcome note and meeting point details will be sent to those who RSVP \nNB – we can only hold those tours on a weekday when the Archives is opena and fully operational.
