SUMMARY:Cultural Series - The story of the Nôm script with Dr Lâm
DESCRIPTION:How many times on excursions and visiting places of worship you been told something is written in Hán or Nôm but you have no idea what it says or what the differences are between the characters?  Now is your chance to learn about these 2 fascinating scripts and their importance in Vietnam. \nWhy did Vietnam have a dual script? It was because the Chinese characters did not satisfy the vocabulary and grammar of the Vietnamese language. They did not sound like Vietnamese. \nHow and why did Nôm appear\, and what are the influences of Hán script?  Why are there 2 different scripts that look very similar? Who still read and interpret Nôm today?  What do they verbally sound like? How do you write these scripts and how can you tell the difference between the 2? These questions and many more ….
