SUMMARY:Talk (evening): “Entwined with Vietnam”: Vietnam-US Reconciliation/Partnership since 1975
DESCRIPTION:Invitation from our long standing FVH member and friend – Ted Hammet \nDear Friends – For those in Vietnam\, please join me and a distinguished panel for a special event in Hanoi. For those unable to attend\, we plan to record the event and make it available to you afterwards. We look forward to seeing you\, one way or another!\nAll the best\,\nTed \nVenue: Café Hope (Hope Coffee)\, 775 Bạch Đằng\, quận Hai Bà Trưng\, Hà Nội \nModerator/host/organiser: Theodore Hammett\, a veteran of the American War who returned to work with Vietnam on HIV/AIDS and other public health issues for twenty years. \nThis event commemorates the 50th anniversary of the end of the war. Speakers will incorporate stories from their lives and work to highlight the benefits of reconciliation and partnership for both of VN and the US. The dedication and resilience that were needed to achieve these benefits give hope that we will overcome the present challenges. \nReconciliation and partnership have achieved successes in many areas: \n\nWar legacies: Unexploded ordnance (UXO) removal; Agent Orange mitigation;\nSupport for people with disabilities;\nLocation and repatriation of remains of missing soldiers and return of captured personal documents to families.\nPublic health: HIV/AIDS\, Tuberculosis\, Covid-19.\n\nPlenty of time for Q&A and discussion. The program will be followed by a reception with light refreshments. \nSPEAKERS \n\nTheodore M.
