SUMMARY:Talk. Operation Hope: The gift of healing. Hanoi surgeons transforming lives in northern ethnic minority regions
DESCRIPTION:Center II\, a local Hanoi NGO\, was born with the mission to change the lives of disabled minority children from poor families in very remote areas in North of Vietnam\, including Hà Giang\, Lạng Sơn\, Lai Châu\, Cao Bằng\, and Yên Bái.  It assists\, educates\, and mentors local health officials\, doctors\, social workers\, and DOLISA employees at various levels in the provinces so they may improve their cognitive abilities and deal with similar situations. Centre II is the inspiration behind the coordination and support of operations and rehabilitation programmes that transform the lives of the children\, giving hope to them and their families and the chance of a better future. \nOperations are performed and overseen by philanthropic surgeons from leading hospitals in Hanoi who donate their time and expertise.  They treat a variety of physical disabilities and birth defects including cleft lip\, open palate and facial malformations\, tumors\, clubfoot\, crossed eyes (strabismus)\, physical handicaps\, severe skin burns\, and urological conditions\, to name but a few.  The decision to operate is taken after in-depth consultations between doctors and local health teams\, review of test results\, counselling and ongoing assessment. \nOver the past 20 years\, Center II has developed and implemented thousands of screening and surgery programs. The small team is truly committed\, working with all their heart on shoestring budgets\, collaborating with a few sponsorship partners (such as Child Surgery Vietnam) that support and promote Centre II’s work. \nWe are delighted that the Centre II team\, led by founder and Hanoi local Mr. Đồng Văn An\, and US representative from their partner Child Surgery Vietnam-US\, Mr Bob\, have accepted our invitation to share their experience and stories\, before they head back north for another  round of medical consultations and surgeries. \nPlease join us for this such a worthwhile talk\, which will focus on: \n\nthe ethnic minority communities\,\nhow their culture may impact on their health experience\,\ntransformation of lives through surgery\,\nthe interaction between the Hanoi and local medical teams\,\nthe planning and logistics process\ncase studies and inspiring stories\n\n  \nFate introduced Centre II to FVH through the connections of one of committee who had  a chance to volunteer with Center II and Child Surgery Vietnam in March.
