SUMMARY:Hanoi City Walk (English): The road to the South – Lê Duản and surrounding area - nearly full
DESCRIPTION:AS OF 1PM 10 APRIL MAX 2 SPACES LEFT AFTER WHICH WE WILL HAVE A WAITING LIST. THANKS \nJoin us for an afternoon stroll down Lê Duản street and the surrounding area. You may be surprised that a walking tour could be made out of this area and especially down Le Duan street but there are some great stories. \nStarting at Cửa Nam we explore the history of the former south gate\, the nearby streets and stories of the area\, find out who was the ‘French Lady with the flared skirt\, where parasols were traded\, which is one of Hanoi’s original Phở gà stalls\, what did ‘Quan An Ngon’ used to be\, where was the Mandarin road\, what was originally on the site of Hanoi railway station\,  ending with who was Lê Duản the man himself ..….. \nMost of what we talk about has sadly long gone but there are some interesting stories which bring the area alive together with  memories\, and photos of what hopefully will be an eclectic whistle-stop tour through history of the Lê Duản area.  Shortly into the start of the walk have a short stop at a near by cafe for those who would like some refreshments while we learn about this cafe’s claim to fame. \nStarting point: Chợ Cửa Nam\, ending at Tran Hung Dao opposite Hanoi railway station. \nGiven the walk will end at the end of the day and it will probably be a hot humid day\, those who want to stay on are welcome to gather for a bia hoi on Tran Hung Dao. \nPlease RSVP to stella@fvheritage.org \nSpaces – ideally no more than 6 people (very max 8 spaces) –  definitely no more as there is extremely limited space to gather at some of the stops and and a big group is not feasible for this walk. \n  \n©1999 Friends of Vietnam Heritage.
