SUMMARY:Hanoi City Walk (ENG) p.m: Trúc Bạch Lake & Ngũ Xã - FULL
DESCRIPTION:A BOXING DAY AFTERNOON TRADITION  \nA tradition for FVH to run this on Boxing Day afternoon so this year is no different. \n \nTHIS WALK IS NOW FULL. PLEASE RSVP FOR THE WAITING LIST. THANKS. \nThe theme of this walk is very eclectic touching on bronze casting\, and the general changes to the area\, the former and present lives of the land and buildings.  We start the tour at Quán Thánh temple\, the almost purely Taoist temple with 350-year-old bronze statue of Trấ́́n Vũ.  We refer to legends around Trúc Bạch lake – stories\, history of the area\, the part the young people played in Hanoi’s reconstruction after the French war\, and silk making in the old days. On Ngũ Xã island at the east end of Trúc Bạch lake we hear about how a special bronze statue was made and  how the fame of the island turned from bronze to food. The walk ends outside the Đúc Đồng Ngũ Xã bronze casting showroom at 178 Trấn Vũ – the home and business of Mr Nguyễn Văn Ưng\, whose family has over 400years bronze casting history.  (Allow up to 3 hours for the walk so that we can take our time) \nRSVP:  stella@fvheritage.org \nNumbers: Max 8 spaces \nMeeting point:  Highlands coffee near Quan Thanh temple (info in the welcome email send to those confirmed on the walk) \n  \n©1999 Friends of Vietnam Heritage.
