SUMMARY:Hanoi City Walk (English) a.m: The Road to the South. Lê Duản street area
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a morning’s stroll down Lê Duản street and the surrounding area. You may be surprised that a walk could be made out of this area.  Starting at Cửa Nam we explore the history of the former south gate\, the nearby streets and stories of the area\, who was the ‘French Lady with the flared skirt\,  where were parasols traded\, where is one of Hanoi’s original phở gà stalls\, what did ‘Quan An Ngon’ used to be\, what used to grow in the area of Hanoi railway station\, and …..  who was Lê Duản and why the tile of this walk is Road to the South. \nMost of what we talk about has sadly long gone but there are many interesting stories which bring the area back to life together with photos to help us ensure that the past does not get forgotten. This is an eclectic whistle-stop tour through history of the Lê Duản street area.  Shortly into the start of the walk have a short stop at a near by cafe for those who would like some refreshments while we learn about this cafe’s claim to fame. \nStarting point: Chợ Cửa Nam\, ending at Tran Hung Dao opposite Hanoi railway station \nRSVP: to stella@fvheritage.org \nNumbers: 6 is the ideal number\, max 8  (there is not enough pavement sanding space for more) \n©1999 Friends of Vietnam Heritage.
