DESCRIPTION:THIS IS EVENT IS NOW FULL.  PLEASE RSVP FOR THE WAITING LIST. THANKS \n\n\n\nThis compact 2-hour walking tour will take you to Hanoi’s Old Quarter to explore the 3 communal houses of the Hang Gai Ward – Hà Vỹ\, Tú Thị\, Yên and Thái.   Each site\, with the different gods and historical figures they worship\, tell a distinct story of the locals\, their craft and their reverence for the past.  Join us to learn about the controversial empress Ỷ Lan\, about pioneers of craft industries who migrated to Hanoi’s inner core and settled here generations ago and so much more. \nFurther details: \n\nHà Vỹ Communal House – built in mid-19th century\,  worships the progenitor of painting and decorating furniture\, gilt wood chests\, trunks as well as panels\, altar pieces … (Trần Lư) who started this trade in the 16th century.\nTú Thị Communal House – its proto-Vietnamese name meaning Embroidery Market Communal House\, worships the progenitor of embroidery in Vietnam\, who brought the craft here in the 17th century (Lê Công Hành). The communal house was built later in 1891 in the Nguyen Dynasty.\nYên Thái Communal House – one of the places that worship Empress Mother Ỷ Lan\, a concubine and regent in the early Lý Dynasty (11th century) who held significant power over the nation during the years her husband went conquering lands in the South.
