SUMMARY:Half-day excursion + workshop. Vạn Phúc silk village & Vụn Art
DESCRIPTION:Half day morning/lunchtime excursion – a weekday for a change. \nVan Phuc Silk Village (also known as Ha Dong Silk Village) is in Van Phuc Ward\, Ha Dong District\, 10 km from the centre of Hanoi\, next to the Nhue River. According to ancient books\, documents and relics\, the weaving trade of Van Phuc village arose in the 9th century. In 1931\, Van Phuc silk was first introduced to the international market at the Marseille Fair and was regarded by the French as the most sophisticated product of Indochina. In 1958.  Van Phuc is the most beautiful and famous silk-weaving village in Vietnam. Although urbanization is increasingly evident\, the village still retains typical features of Vietnam’s countryside with  ancient trees\, wells\, winding lanes\, and markets. \nNowadays\, Van Phuc silk village has been developed in a good way retaining its traditional character which sits comfortably with today’s modern world. \nIn this 2 part half-day excursion\, we discover the history of the village and its  traditional silk-making process  when we visit some silk production workshops.    We follow this with a silk collage workshop using scraps of discarded silk as we collage a face mask with Vun Art. Vun Art is a lovely social enterprise run by Cuong\, an amazing young disabled man \, who set up this business usign the trown away scraps of silk from local businesses. In so doing he has given other disabled people in the village a chance of sustainable livelihoods.  Vun Art is very close to FVH’s heart and we have been supporting them for a number of years . \nThe registration form includes images of products you can decorate in the workshop. One person to make one item. Please complete the form and state your chosen product.  We need to let Vun Art know 10 days in advance. \nTo make best use of funds within our standard FVH donation limits and given that Vạn Phúc is easy to reach independently – the plan is for people to make their own way there and back – transport links are easy and plentiful. And it means you have time to wander round at your lieisue afterwards. \nPlease register before 20 April  via this link https://forms.gle/gWHNRgXuGCu4Fwq1A \nMore details will be provided in joining instructions\, 3 days before the trip. \nMaximum number 22 people \narrive 8.30am at Sik cafe next to  Van Phuc main Village gate – exact location will be given to those who RSVP in the welcome email. \nall proceeds go to Vun Art and our villasge hosts \nVietnamese with ENG interpretation \n  \n  \n  \nPlease note at this changeable period due to COVID-19 that events are subject to government and local authority advice plus the agreement with our hosts; some events may need to be postponed at the last minute; we hope this won’t happen\, but we will keep you updated.  If you have any questions\, please contact us at hello@fvheritage.org.
