SUMMARY:Half-day craft workshop and villlage tour: Vạn Phúc silk village & Vụn Art
DESCRIPTION:Pleaes note at the time of the mailing the programe and final timing are being finalised. it maybe a late morning to late p.m event where we potter round the village and have lunch before the workhop.  The VND price is TBC and to give an indication \nSOME VAN PHUC SILK HISTORY\nVạn Phúc  Silk Village (also known as Hà Đông Silk Village) is located in Vạn Phúc  Ward\, Hà Đông \, 10 km far from the centre of Hanoi\, on the banks of the Nhuệ River. According to ancient books\, documents and relics the weaving craft of Vạn Phúc village arose in the 9th century. Vạn Phúc was considered the most beautiful and famous silk-weaving village in Vietnam. Despite urbanization\, the village retains typical features of Vietnam’s countryside with ancient trees\, wells and village markets around the pavillion. \nIts silk was first introduced in 1931 to the international market at the Marseille Fair and was regarded by the French as the most sophisticated product of Indochina. In 1958\,. Vạn Phúc silk was exported to eastern Europe and it has long been exported all around the world. \nThis is the village’s long-term occupation which sees villagers combining into its silk production line. A number of small businesses have merged into big silk businesses producing richer and richer products. \nTOUR AND WORKSHOP \nIn this half-day excursion\, we will explore some of the history of Vạn Phúc village and visit the house/museum where Ho Chi Minh wrote the proclaimation to the people in 1946 calling them to rise up against the French.  The 2nd half will be  learning about the craft of making collages from discarded silk scraps with our adorable and very special friends at Vụn Art. \nVụn Art is a local social enterprise (much loved by the community) which has created sustainable livelihoods for a number of handicapped people in the village.  The Vụn Art handicapped team will help us. \nEach time we partner with them we find they have developed more and more sophisticated products and we are so proud of how the enterprise has developed. We hope that Vụn Art founder Cường can attend to introduce us to how he started this enterprise and helped change the lives of many. We love him very much. \nWORKSHOP\nMore details to come on what product we will collage with silk and  the process \nRSVP: google form TO COME  but in the meantime if you are interested in signing up in advance or if you have questions please email hello@fvheritage.org \nCost: probably in the region of 400\,000 VND per person (same price for everyone) to include tour and workshop and your collaged product to take away with you. All proceeds go to  Vụn Art and we always try to support this lovely group of people. Final total will depend on the product we make. \nNumbers: max 10 people \nFinal timings will be advised as it will depend what time the museum/open closes \nTo make best use of funds within our standard FVH donation limits and given that Vạn Phúc is easy to reach independently – for this event we always ask people to make your own way there and back. It also means you can arrive earlier or stay later and spend more time browsing.  There are plenty of ways to get to the village: taxi/grab\, own motorbike\, public bus\, BRT from Kim Ma bus station\, or skytrain to Ha Dong station. \nVietnamese with ENG interpretation. \nPlease follow and like us:Share this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)Click to share on Google+ (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Like this:Like Loading...\n\n	Related\n
