SUMMARY:Exhibition and talk: From Tradition to Tradition (Hàng Trống folk paintings)
DESCRIPTION:The exhibition held at Nam Hương communal House on Hàng Trống street ends on 20 December 2020. Before it closes\, Nguyễn Thị Hoài Giang  (one of the artists) will take us on a guided tour of this compact and fascinating exhibition. It showcases silk and lacquer paintings by students of the Vietnam University of Fine Arts depicting their interpretation of the 400 year old Hàng Trống folk paintings.  It is the brainchild of Nguyễn Thế Sơn\, artist and lecturer who wanted to his students to learn from\, and be inspired by\, Lê Đình Nghiên – the only Hàng Trống folk painting artisan left. \nHàng Trống street was where these folk paintings originated (hence the name) and the communal house is home to one of Nghiên’s original ceremonial Hàng Trống paintings. \nThe students learnt under Nghiên’s guidance and they created original works incorporating the elements and techniques of the folk paintings\, reflecting traditional culture in modern life. \nThe programe 5pm-6.30pm \n5pm Overview of Hàng Trống folk art\, info about Lê Đình Nghiên (Nghiên cannot attend – he is a very private person\, who is somewhat of a recluse and not comfortable attending events like this) \n5.10pm-5.30pm documentary film -how the exhibition was put together\, the students and their work and the processes they followed \n5.30pm-6.30pm guided tour\, discussion and Q&A  – Giang will go in order by image and show the different interpretations of certain elements such as the 5 tigers\, the fish\, the peacock …. \nWe have chosen to hold this event in the evening as the communal house leads to the courtyard and view of Hoan Kiem lake (lovely at night) and the documentary film will be shown outside projected onto one of the communal house ‘walls’ \nWe appreciate that this may not a convenient time for a lot of people\, but it is the most atmospheric time. We hope that a small group of around 6 people would like to gather for this event before the exhibition closes. \nPlease  RSVP to Stella – stella@fvheritage.org \n200\,000 vnd \n  \nPlease follow and like us:Share this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)Click to share on Google+ (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Like this:Like Loading...\n\n	Related\n
